A Million Trees

Earth Day 2008 with Our Green Business

Will you make a decision to turn a deeper shade of green on April 22nd?

I’ve been scrambling to help my green business owners get ready for Earth Day 2008.  In a Shaklee home business, April is a month of celebration as people focus on becoming a deeper shade of green.  Coincidentally, Shaklee has also kicked off a campaign to support women entrepreneurs build wealth with Shaklee.  April is winding up to be a GREAT month and the best yet for our business in 2008!

I own a consulting practice that has been on coast since I found the greenest company I know and hung up my Shaklee shingle.  I talked with a former business associate today.  She has some project management work in Mexico City they need help with.  “Would you fly every week?” she asked.  And then I thought about all that carbon footprint from jet fuel.  “No, I would come back perhaps every three weeks.”

The IT and Financial corporate clients that I have spent my career assisting have lost the appeal that once drew me to the business.  I found myself thinking “But what about my new Gold Ambassador needing my help to get her business off the ground?”  She’s a stay at home Mom of four young children and preparing for the financial storm of change coming to her and her children.

Our Chiropractor has introduced Shaklee supplementation and non-toxic products into his practice.  We’re planning an Open House to the public on April 22nd.  We will educate about the dangers of 83,000 untested chemicals on store shelves and the health consequences when we choose to bring them into our homes.  I thought, “I won’t be able to help with the event and ensure it’s success. ”

Then that small inner voice said to me, “But I’ve never been to Mexico City…  Hey… Shaklee is in Mexico and people can earn income and switch to safe Shaklee products there.”  My mind continued with the “Pros” and “Cons” checklist of “Should I go or should I stay.”

Meanwhile, my husband voiced his concerns that I could be kidnapped by one of the taxi-cab drivers that are famous for taking tourists to ATM’s and emptying their bank account.  He is always concerned for me when I travel and of course we spent 12 long years living separately.  It’s been the best part of our life together since we started our Shaklee business.   I thought, “Do I really want to worry him that way?”

And then I thought about my grandsons.  One of the biggest reasons that I am so concerned about our planet’s future.   I would miss out on their most precious growth  – right now they are 10 months and 3 years.  Ethan runs to have Mamaw hug him and Edison grins with that one bottom tooth and giggles when he catches my attention.  “How can I live without my family again?  What would life be like without them?”.

My daughter needs me right now too.  She is so relieved to have me watch the boys when she must be away.  Daycare is something the kids have not experienced and we are so grateful that we can help with their care when she needs us.  “What would she do if I’m not here to watch the boys and listen to her when she needs support and love from another mother – her mother?” I thought.

Can you guess what my decision is?  Yip…  I’m hook, line, and sinker commited to continuing on the path of my new career.  You may be asking, “Are you crazy?”  What about all that money you can make with a consulting business?”  I  will tell you what MY goals for a better life include…

1.  Help people become financially independent and money wise with a Shaklee business.  I know when I help others get everything they need in life, I’ll have everything I could ever want in mine.

2.  Bring health to people through public education about the consumer dangers that lurk in the market today and help them switch to Shaklee pure and safe products .  Shaklee has never had a product recall.

3.  Remain “Carbon Neutral” through offset projects and working from home with Shaklee which has been “Carbon Neutral Certified” since 2002.

4.  Educate parents about child safety.  Through education and product choices, my goal is to interrupt the startling statistic of childhood asthma which has increased by 166% in recent years and women that work in the home are dying at a rate 54% higher than average from terminal cancer.  The Toronto Clean Air Institute sites typical household cleaners and chemicals as the cause.

5. Replace my consulting practice income within 5 years with my Shaklee business.  In 2006, Master Coordinators AVERAGE PUBLISHED 1099 earnings were $286,000.  The Gold Ambassador program is averaging $30,000 in additional income to Masters.  We are using methods that will move the needle forward to that and beyond for us personally and our team.

6.  Stay in the race for the long haul.  I am commited to building our business now so we can enjoy residual income in a few short years.  The plate is set – Baby Boomers Want Shaklee Health and Nutrition, the Green Wave is Here, and Shaklee is expanding to 43 more countries in the next 7 years.

I am so blessed to have found such a wonderful and rewarding new life.  It is true what Roger Barnett, our CEO says, I can “Do Well by Doing Good”.

Ninety percent of people want a home business.  How about you?  Do you want to join me and build a future that will fulfill your dreams for a better life?  Would you like to align your financial future with your convictions?  Are you anxious to hedge against the financial pressures of a faltering economy?  Do you have a loved one that is chronically sick and in need of better health?  Are you concerned about your children’s future and the possibility that global warming may affect them in a dramatic way?

You can be part of the solution this Earth Day 2008.  No one person can do everything but everyone can do something.  Join us as a business owner or member and be part of the Shaklee family.  Happy Earth Day 2008!

Recognizing a Stroke – Learn and Pass It On

If everyone can remember something this simple, we could save some folks.

During a BBQ, a friend stumbled and took a little fall – she assured everyone that
she was fine (they offered to call paramedics) …..she said she had just tripped
over a brick because of her new shoes. They got her cleaned up and got her a new
plate of food. While she appeared a bit shaken up, Ingrid went about enjoying
herself the rest of the evening.

Ingrid’s husband called later telling everyone that his wife had been taken to the
hospital – (at 6:00 pm Ingrid passed away.) She had suffered a stroke at the BBQ.
Had they known how to identify the signs of a stroke, perhaps Ingrid would be
with us today. Some don’t die…. they end up in a helpless, hopeless condition
instead. It only takes a minute to read this…

A neurologist says that if he can get to a stroke victim within 3 hours he can
totally reverse the effects of a stroke… totally . He said the trick was getting
a stroke recognized, diagnosed, and then getting the patient medically cared for
within 3 hours, which is tough.

Thank God for the sense to remember the “3” steps, STR . Read and Learn!
Sometimes symptoms of a stroke are difficult to identify. Unfortunately, the lack
of awareness spells disaster. The stroke victim may suffer severe brain damage
when people nearby fail to recognize the symptoms of a stroke . Now doctors
say a bystander can recognize a stroke by asking three simple questions:

S * Ask the individual to SMILE.

T * Ask the person to TALK and SPEAK A SIMPLE SENTENCE (Coherently)
(i.e. It is sunny out today)

R * Ask him or her to RAISE BOTH ARMS. If he
or she has trouble with  ANY ONE of these tasks – call 999/911 immediately and
describe the symptoms to the dispatcher.

NEW SIGN OF A STROKE ——– Stick out Your Tongue
Ask the person to ‘stick’ out his tongue.. If the tongue is ‘crooked’, if it goes to
one side or the other , that is also an indication of a stroke.

If everyone who sees this – sends it to 10 people ; you can bet that at least
one life will be saved.

Take the Body Burden Test and Change One Thing Today

You know I’m remembering the movie “Children of Men” lately.  It was a bit edgy but plausible I thought – all the humans are infertile until one woman becomes pregnant.  It’s a mad dash to save the mother and the child.

CNN’s Anderson Cooper is bringing public awareness to a problem that is making my head spin.  The chemical load that is burdening our bodies  – in our bones, brains, muscle and organs.  Do I really want to know this?

You bet I do and I’m going to do everything I can to minimize the amount of toxins I’m putting into my body and in my home.  I’m past child bearing years but listen up all you couples that are hoping to conceive – do what you can to get the chemicals out of your home.

First, I found an online quiz to simulate my body burden score.  Go ahead and see what your Test reveals.   OK, so now you’ve taken the test and have an idea what you can actually change and the things that may be just plain out of our control.  So let’s focus on one thing today that we can change – are you with me?

Oprah featured non-toxic home care products on her Earth Day show this year – take a minute to see her feature for going green and toxin free   I am using these cleaners and they’re just plain fun to use – GetClean . Go ahead and try them – and send your toxic household cleaners to the hazardous waste site.  Yes – that’s what I said.  The US government considers common household cleaners as hazardous waste.  You can see what chemicals you are spreading around your home – on the floor, table, dishes, in the air you breath by visiting  NIH .

So now you have the knowledge and knowledge is consumer power.  Get the toxins out of your home and the cool thing about the Get Clean products is – they are made by the first company President Bill Clinton recognized back in 2000 as Carbon Neutral.  The first company – ever to be Carbon Neutral.

So this is the first of many changes I’ll be challenging you to make in the coming days.  Stay tuned and let me know if you are ready to accept the “Body Burden” challenge.

Please forward this to everyone you know – let’s make a difference – one person at a time.

CNN and Body Burden Testing

Anderson Cooper has completed a piece about chemical exposures and what it is doing to our bodies – but even more importantly – what it’s doing to our children.
Please forward this on to everyone you know with children – please get the word out.     Check out my blog for a series of writings on taking the Body Burden Challenge to find out easy ways you can reduce your body burden scores and keep you, your home and the planet safe.

While you’re there, please check out our website to order non-toxic and environmentally safe products. Find out why Oprah has had Shaklee on her show 3 times this year supporting the company and it’s safe products.

Adventures in saving the planet

I found Shaklee about 4 months ago when I was consulting just outside of New York City.  I had been talking with clients and coworkers as we were all becoming increasingly alarmed about global warming.

One day I asked another consultant “What have you done to reduce your carbon footprint on the earth?”  He said  “I purchased Shaklee household cleaners.”  I said “Oh?” He went on to tell me they are green seal certified – he raved about these household products and said they were the best cleaners he had ever used, they were environmentally safe and he knows they are non-toxic for his wife and small children at home…

I was intrigued and immediately started researching Shaklee.  I was thrilled to find they are the most green company I had ever found.  They were the first company to be recognized as carbon neutral back in 2002.  They still believe in the golden rule and their philanthropy work toward slowing greenhouse gases and stopping global warming is priceless.  It felt like I had come home – Shaklee just fit – so I purchased the Get Clean Starter Kit that day.

Well I have had asthma for the last 20 years and I hadn’t been able to clean with regular household cleaners without being sick for days afterward.  I was so excited to find that by using the Get Clean products – I could clean my home and I didn’t get sick.  I think that was a real ah ha moment for me.  I wasn’t making a big sacrifice by using environmentally safe products – I was reaping a benefit by experiencing better health.

So I would say I am thrilled with my purchase of the Shaklee Get Clean Starter Kit. Not only am I reducing over 100 pounds of packaging waste from landfills and eliminating 248 pounds of greenhouse gases – I am breathing better and growing stronger everyday that I am not exposed to toxic chemicals in my home.

I hope my story inspires you to start making changes in your life to reduce your footprint on the earth.  Shaklee is a company for today – these products aren’t wimpy – they’ll amaze you and they’re economical.  To give you an idea – a bottle of window cleaner that you will mix by adding 2 drops of H2 cleaner to 16 oz of your water will cost you a penny.  So please choose environmentally safe products and make the change today – it’ll be good for you, your family and the planet.  Best of all – you’ll be making a change toward stopping global warming and that is priceless.
